KUALA LUMPUR – Hacker group R00TK1T is at it again – this time “infiltrating” the cloud application of the Youth and Sports Ministry last Saturday (March 16).

Minister Hannah Yeoh confirmed this today, saying that no private information was leaked.

“We have notified the National Cybersecurity Agency and Cybersecurity Malaysia of this breach.

“The ministry has taken immediate action and the situation is under control through a few technical interventions,” she said at a press conference after launching the 2024 edition of the Le Tour de Langkawi at the National Sports Council, here today.

She added that the hacked documents were only administrative files.

“Everything is under control.”

Over the weekend, R00TK1T announced that it successfully hacked into the ministry’s cloud application.

“Our skilled crew have gained direct access to their cloud infrastructure, exposing critical vulnerabilities in their security measures.

“The Ministry of Youth and Sports – your cloud is now in the hands of R00TK1T,” said the group in a message in its Telegram group.

The group has previously hacked into the National Population and Family Development Board  (LPPKN) and threatened to shut down Maxis Bhd’s network.

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo told the Dewan Rakyat last week that the government was not involved in any negotiations or agreements with R00TK1T.

He added that his ministry would continue to work with the National Cyber Security Agency and foreign cyber agencies to track down and take action against “threat actors”. – March 18, 2024
