KUALA LUMPUR – A system outage in McDonald’s outlets across Asia has left customers famished as they could not order at stores, via the mobile app or through electronic kiosks.
The fast-food giant said on X that outlets in Japan had a system failure, resulting in temporary suspension of operations.
Outlets in China were also affected, which led to consumers complaining on Weibo, while unhappy customers in Hong Kong took to Facebook.
Mobile-ordering and self-ordering kiosks were not working in Hong Kong but gradually returned to normal.
Meanwhile, services in South Korea were suspended due to “regular server maintenance for website stabilisation”.
Similar issues also hit outlets in Australia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Singapore and New Zealand.
However, the outage did not affect its outlets in Malaysia.
A McDonald’s spokesperson said the chain was aware of the outage that impacted the restaurants.
“The issue is now being resolved. We thank customers for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. Notably, the issue is not related to a cybersecurity event.” – March 15, 2024
