KUALA LUMPUR – The capital’s Chinatown, Petaling Street, has been ranked sixth in Time Out’s 2024 list of The Coolest Streets in the World.

The global lifestyle media brand described Petaling Street as a place to experience a “renaissance” with its juxtaposition of Kuala Lumpur’s oldest temples alongside the newest and hippest drinking and dining spots.

“Jalan Petaling may be one of the city’s oldest streets… there’s modern Malaysian cuisine made with seasonal, locally sourced produce at Chocha Foodstore, natural wines from around the world at Small Shifting Space, and the city’s best street food and souvenirs at the Chinatown stalls in the heart of Jalan Petaling,” was Time Out’s description of the iconic street in the old part of the city.

In this year’s list of coolest streets, Melbourne’s High Street was ranked first, a position it has now held for three years’ straight.

The second to fifth spots were given to Hong Kong’s Hollywood Road; the East Eleventh in Austin, Texas; Guatemala Street in Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Commercial Drive in Vancouver, Canada.

The list was nominated by local editors and writers and ranked based on food, drink, fun, art, culture, nightlife and community vibes.
