Bersatu’s Selat Klang rep pledges support for Selangor MB

Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari says he made decision on his own volition

KUALA LUMPUR – Bersatu’s Selat Klang assemblyman, Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari, today declared his support for Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari’s leadership.

Rashid, who is a former Selangor Bersatu chief, said that the decision was made willingly and without any coercion.

“This is after I examined the Sultan of Selangor’s speech that praised the administration of the Selangor government for being on the right track, for the sake of the state’s progress and the well-being of the people,” he said in a statement today.

“This step is also a result of a series of actions by Perikatan Nasional (PN), especially Selangor PN, which is seen to be silent against the accusations thrown at the Malay rulers.”

Rashid also said the decision was also made for the well-being of the people in his constituency, who will benefit from a stable state government.

Despite supporting Amirudin’s leadership, Rashid said he remains committed as a Bersatu member and will continue to serve as the Selat Klang assemblyman.

Meanwhile, Jeram assemblyman Datuk Harrison Hassan denied that he was among the Bersatu reps in Selangor rumoured to be switching support to Amirudin.

He told Scoop that he never met the menteri besar over this matter.

“The rumours being spread are untrue, there was never a meeting with the MB,” he said when contacted.

A Pakatan Harapan-linked website today claimed that five Bersatu assemblymen in Selangor would announce their support for Amirudin’s government, purportedly due to dissatisfaction with Selangor PN party chief Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

On March 2, Bersatu officially ratified Article 10 of the party’s constitution with the backing of 1,956 delegates who participated in the extraordinary general meeting at the Ideal Convention Centre in Selayang.

The party’s constitutional amendment was prompted by the actions of six Bersatu MPs who had earlier voiced their support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The MPs involved are Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang); Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan); Zahari Kechik (Jeli); Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang); Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar); and Datuk Zulkafperi Hanafi (Tg Karang). – March 6, 2024
