KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on government lawmakers to ensure the quality of their debates and decorum during the Dewan Rakyat sitting starting tomorrow.
In a post on his social media accounts, Anwar said that he conveyed the advice during a pre-Dewan Rakyat meeting earlier today.
The event was also attended by cabinet members and deputy ministers ahead of the lower House’s sitting, scheduled to take place tomorrow.
“In my address, I stressed that all government MPs should ensure the quality of their debates and practice good manners throughout the Dewan Rakyat session until March 27,” the prime minister said.
Those in attendance were also briefed on Parliament proceedings by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
“This session was also a space for all MPs to touch on various current issues, especially those involving the people’s interest.”
The first meeting of the third session of the 15th Parliament will kick off tomorrow with an inaugural royal address by the King of Malaysia, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.
Lawmakers from both sides of the political divide will then debate on the royal address from February 27 to March 7, followed by the winding-up by relevant ministries for four days beginning March 11.
The sitting will then continue with the tabling of several bills, including the Shariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (RUU355) and a bill to realise the establishment of a single national border agency. – February 25, 2024
