KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is still undergoing post-infection treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN), according to his close aide.
He will only be discharged once IJN is satisfied with his level of recovery, Sufi Yusof told a media group, while sharing photos of the nonagenarian recuperating in a hospital suite at the cardiac specialist centre.
“Dr Mahathir is currently still being treated and is in the process of recovering from (an) infection.
“I can’t say when he will be discharged until and unless the IJN is satisfied with his level of recovery.”
In the photos captured today, Dr Mahathir – who will turn 99-years-old on July 10 this year – is seen sitting at a table reading the newspaper, taking hand-written notes, and perusing documents while dressed in a modern batik shirt.
Yesterday, a source dismissed online claims on Dr Mahathir’s health status and said that the former two-time prime minister is conscious and in stable condition.
On February 13, it was reported that Dr Mahathir would be taking a period of rest following treatment at IJN for an infection.
This development came after his admission to IJN on January 26. In August last year, Dr Mahathir was similarly admitted to IJN for infection-related treatment. – February 20, 2024
