KUALA LUMPUR – National shooter Johnathan Wong capped off his training stint in Denmark with a silver medal in the men’s 10m air pistol event at the Denmark Open Air 2024, yesterday.
The 31-year-old fired 234.7 points to finish behind Indian champ Arjun Singh, who recorded 239 points in the competition held in Vildbjerg Sports-og Kulturcenter.
Home shooter Hansen Jonas Kofoed had to settle for bronze with 213.1 points.
National Shooting Association of Malaysia (NSAM) executive secretary Hayati Shamsuri said they were pleased to see that Johnathan managed to take home a medal after finishing second in the qualifying round with 576 points.
“Johnathan has been in Denmark since January 14 to undergo training, which is also part of his preparation for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris this July.
“This is a good decision for Johnathan as we want to help him qualify for more finals, gain experience, and subsequently reduce any sense of unfamiliarity if he qualifies for the finals in major championships after this,” she told Bernama when contacted today.
Hayati said, Johnathan, who is expected to arrive from Denmark this Tuesday (February 20), will continue training here before competing in the next two World Cup series in Baku, Azerbaijan (May 1 to 12) and Munich, Germany (May 31 to June 7). – February 17, 2024
