KUALA LUMPUR – Johor police chief M. Kumar said he received a bomb threat in an email this morning.

Kumar revealed that the threatening email was sent to multiple recipients, including government agencies such as the Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB).

“Yes, I received a bomb threat with an official email,” Kumar told a press conference.

He pointed out that the modus operandi of the suspect involved sending the same threat to various parties, with MBJB being one of them. Both MBJB and the police have filed reports on the incident.

“We’ve received two reports related to the threatening email,” Kumar said.

Further investigation by Kumar’s team indicated that the email was sent by the same individual who targeted multiple parties in a similar case last December.

“We believe it’s the same person, our checks revealed the use of a fake account, confirming the sender’s identity,” Kumar said

Regarding the motive behind the threat, Kumar expressed uncertainty.

“Sometimes understanding what this person thinks is difficult, only he knows. Perhaps he aims to create an atmosphere of tension, but I want to give a firm warning that such actions are wrong, and the police will take strict action.”

Kumar highlighted ongoing investigations to identify the suspect and stressed that his team is determined to apprehend the perpetrator.

“We are currently conducting a thorough investigation, including efforts to track down the suspect. Any developments will be disclosed later,” Kumar said.

Earlier reports from the media indicated that three government premises in south Johor Bahru received similar bomb threats via email on the same day.

Johor Bahru selatan district police chief Raub Selamat, said that the emails received by the government premises are believed to have originated from abroad, adding that the sender did not specify a particular location.

One of the targeted premises was identified as the MBJB in Bukit Senyum. – February 13, 2024
