KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional’s decision to maintain Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as its prime minister candidate if the opposition comes back to power shows that the coalition lacks responsibility and future leaders.
In his latest Facebook entry, Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi claimed that the former prime minister had failed to lead the country in his 17-month tenure.
“Everyone knows that he is ‘PM gagal’. There are no noteworthy accomplishments in which to take pride.
“Many violations of governance, including concerns about delegation of authority and the continued absence of his son-in-law abroad,” he said.
He also criticised PAS, which is also part of the PN coalition, as it appeared reluctant to support its vice-president and Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar as a prime ministerial candidate for PN.
This reluctance, Puad said, arises from PAS’ dependence on Bersatu for financial support.
“PAS still needs money from Bersatu since it has Jana Wibawa,” he said.
Earlier, PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin defended Muhyiddin by saying that there was nothing wrong with nominating him as the coalition’s prime ministerial candidate since he had taken the position previously under PN’s governance. – February 11, 2024
