KUALA LUMPUR – National divers Nur Dhabitah Sabri and Ng Yan Yee have failed to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics after finishing ninth out of 18 divers in the 3m synchronised springboard event at the World Aquatics Championships in Doha today.
The pair registered dives of 44.40, 40.20, 63.00, 51.30, and 59.40 for a total of 258.30, 65.13 points behind gold medalists Chang Yani-Chen Yiwen from China.
Anabelle Smith-Maddison Keeney of Australia took the silver, while Scarlett Mew Jensen-Yasmin Harper of Britain rounded up the podium.
The pair needed to finish in the top seven to qualify for this year’s summer games.
Malaysia did not qualify for the 3m springboard event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and that trend unfortunately continues for Paris.
Earlier this morning, Pandelela Rinong Pamg with Nur Dhabitah failed to book a spot in Paris after finishing 12th in the final of the 10m synchronised platform event.
This confirms the 30-year-old will not qualify for Paris after participating in four previous editions of the Olympics.
Earlier, on Sunday, the Sarawakian diver failed to advance to the semi-finals of the individual 10m platform after finishing 29th out of 46 divers.
However, both Nur Dhabitah and Yan Yee have another opportunity to qualify for Paris when they compete in the preliminary round of the 3m individual springboard event tomorrow. – February 7, 2024
