KUALA LUMPUR – Police have arrested a 25-year-old suspect for allegedly assaulting an elderly man in a recent road rage incident that triggered public outrage.
Sepang police chief Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusoff said the local man was arrested at 5pm yesterday and was remanded by the Sepang magistrate’s court until Friday.
The incident occurred in front of a private clinic in Taman Tasik Puchong Prima, Putra Perdana, Sepang on January 30.
In a statement, he said the self-employed individual has three prior criminal records under Section 395 and Section 160 of the Penal Code for gang robbery and committing affray, as well as Section 39A of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
Wan Kamarul said that the victim was attacked while travelling from Brickfields to Putra Perdana to meet a friend.
In Puchong Perdana, the suspect assaulted the victim on his face, head, and ribs with no apparent reason, accompanied by derogatory remarks.

Wan Kamarul said that the victim, persistently followed by the suspect, was blocked in front of a bakery in Putra Perdana. The assailant then forcibly removed the elderly man from the car, repeatedly punching him in the eye area and kicking him.
“The victim, a pensioner, was left at the location and transported by ambulance to Serdang Hospital for treatment,” Wan Kamarul added.
After a medical examination, it was revealed that the victim suffered head swelling, bruises on the left eye, a fractured left cheekbone, and a fracture below the left eye bone.
The police initiated an investigation under Section 325 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to seven years imprisonment and a fine.
Kamarul confirmed the authenticity of the photo depicting the elderly man with injuries circulating on social media.
He said that the case is still under investigation. – February 6, 2024
