Bring it on, stop making empty threats, Syed Hussin tells off Bersatu sec-gen Hamzah

Bukit Gantang MP says party should focus on the welfare of its members instead

KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal has taken a swipe at Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, saying the Bersatu secretary-general should stop threatening party members, and to instead behave professionally.

The Bukit Gantang MP is also ready to face any legal action, but says such threats are meaningless coming from Hamzah.

“Hamzah left his party (Umno) after the general election 2018 and Umno wanted to sue him. He has some experience in this as party rules are not the law. Just ask professionally.

“Bersatu is welcome to take legal action, no problem, I accept,” said Syed Hussin.

He added that it is better for Bersatu to focus on the welfare of its members, including fighting for allocations, as well as efforts to unite the Malays.

Syed Hussin reiterated that Bersatu MPs who are supporting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim did not quit the party.

On November 28 last year, Syed Hussin declared his support for Anwar in the Dewan Rakyat, becoming the fifth lawmaker from Perikatan Nasional to do so.

Since then, he has claimed that more MPs from the opposition will voice their support for the unity government.

Syed Hussin did not quit Bersatu, and likewise, the other MPs who have declared support for Anwar still remain Bersatu members, so as to avoid losing their seats as required under the country’s new anti-party hopping laws.

The sixth and latest Bersatu MP to declare support for Anwar was Tanjong Karang MP Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi, less than a week.

The earlier MPs who did the same are Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang) and Zahari Kechik (Jeli). – January 29, 2024
