New Sarawak governor Wan Junaidi arrives in Kuching

He’s set to take oath as Sarawak’s head of state on Monday

KUCHING – The new Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, arrived here today to begin his new role.

He arrived at Kuching International Airport on a special flight, accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, at 11am.

Present to welcome the couple were Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg and the two deputy premiers, Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, as well as other members of the state cabinet and community leaders.

Wan Junaidi, 77, is scheduled to take his oath as Sarawak governor at the state assembly this Monday.

He was appointed the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak by Article 1 of the Sarawak constitution for a four-year term until January 26, 2028.

He takes over from Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud who had held the post for three terms from March 1, 2014. – January 27, 2024
