Bersatu dependent on PAS aid, no financial allocation, says Bukit Gantang MP

PUCHONG – Bersatu does not have financial allocations for its MPs and relies solely on assistance from state governments led by PAS.

Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal said he is confident that the Islamic party will not form a partnership with Bersatu in the next general election.

“PAS is already considering itself strong now and fickle with its decisions in every election,” he said.

“Due to this, Bersatu has already initiated early preparations, including appointing a new leader, the current party’s secretary-general, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, who will succeed Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as president.

“When Hamzah joined Bersatu, there were no leaders who pledged their support for the prime minister. However, now there are already many Bersatu MPs who have expressed support, indicating that they may engage in negotiations with the government,” he said during a press conference.

Last year, Syed Hussin, who is also a Bersatu MP, claimed that about seven or eight MPs from several states would support the prime minister during the Dewan Rakyat sitting in February.

He said the transfer of power must take place within Bersatu because not only is the party’s direction unclear, but Muhyiddin has also rescinded his decision to contest again in the party’s election, seemingly influenced by his “wife’s words”.

On November 24, Muhyiddin announced his decision not to contest the presidency position in the upcoming party election, anticipated to take place before the end of 2024.

However, the very next day, he made a U-turn and decided to vie for the position of president in the upcoming Bersatu election.

Muhyiddin, who is also Perikatan Nasional chairman, said his decision had received the blessing of his wife, Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman. – January 26, 2024
