I was right on MPs switching support to Anwar, more to follow suit, says Syed Hussin

Bukit Gantang MP says this after Tg Karang MP’s move to back prime minister

KUALA LUMPUR – Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal says his previous statement has proven to be true following the Tg Karang MP’s decision to pledge allegiance to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Speaking to Scoop, Syed Abu Hussin reiterated that his statement, claiming that seven to eight MPs from Perikatan Nasional would express their support for the prime minister, remained true, despite facing criticism.

“With (Tg Karang MP) Zulkafperi’s latest announcement pledging his support for Anwar, it confirms that what I have said is true, and more individuals are likely to follow suit.

“I will be holding a press conference tomorrow to announce a crucial revelation regarding the ongoing support for the prime minister,” he added.

Opposition lawmaker Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi was the sixth and latest lawmaker from Bersatu to announce support for Anwar.

He said his decision was ultimately done for the sake of his constituents in suburban Selangor.

Dr Zulkafperi declared his support for Anwar in a statement yesterday, saying he supports the federal government’s policies and initiatives that prioritise public welfare, development, the economy and the public interest until the next general election, which is due to be called in 2027.

Last year, Syed Abu Hussin, who is also a Bersatu MP, claimed that about seven or eight MPs in several states would throw their support behind the prime minister during the Dewan Rakyat sitting in February.

He, however, refused to reveal the identities of the MPs involved or whether they were from PAS or Bersatu.

Besides Syed Abu Hussin, four more MPs from Bersatu have declared their support for Anwar’s leadership, namely Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan). – January 25, 2024
