KUALA LUMPUR – The Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) today issued a flood warning for several areas located near rivers in Terengganu and Pahang, expected to occur in stages from December 24 to 26.
DID in a statement said in Terengganu, flooding is expected to occur from 2am (December 24) until 2am on December 26, with Sg Besut causing floods in low-lying areas around Kg La, Kg Seberang La, Kg Keruak, and Kg Pengkalan Nangka in Besut.
In Kemaman, the flood warning pertains to Sg Kijing, affecting low-lying areas around Kg Sg Mas, Kg Pelantuh, Padang Kubu, Kg Paman, and Kg Sg Pinang.
The projected flooding in the district also includes Sg Kemaman, impacting low-lying areas around Jambatan Air Putih, Kg Teladas, Kg Darat Air Putih, Rumah Pam Paya Paman, Kg Binjai, Kg Bukit Mentok, Kg Kubang Kurus and Kg Fikri.
The flood warning extends to Sg Tebak in the Kemaman district, impacting low-lying areas around Jambatan Tebak.
In Hulu Terengganu, the warning pertains to Sg Tersat, affecting low-lying areas around KM8 Jalan Sekayu, Kg Pelandan, Kg Cheting and Kg Bukit Gemuruh.
In Pahang, flooding is expected to occur from 8am on December 24 to 8am on December 26 in the Kuantan district along Sg Kuantan, affecting low-lying areas around Kuantan Bypass, Bukit Rangin, Kg Sg Tiram, Tanah Putih, Kg Cenderawasih, Kg Java and Medan Warisan.
Also in Kuantan, the flood warning extends to Sg Belat, with the anticipated areas the low-lying region around Sri Damai, Taman Pandan Aman, Kg Jaya Gading, Kg Gudang Rasau, Kg Telok Mahang, and Kg Gelugor.
Furthermore, in the same district, Sg Galing is expected to cause floods in low-lying areas around Kg Galing, Taman Galing, and Kg Alor Akar, while Sg Ular is expected to impact areas around Kg Sg Ular and Kg Cherating Damai.
According to DID, the floods may occur earlier or later than the expected time frame. Residents in districts not covered by this monsoon flood warning are advised to take precautionary measures.
