The accused, Izzat Saat, merely nodded when the charge was read to him at the magistrates’ court, today.

Based on the charge, the suspect had the intention to murder and cause the death of his wife Nurul Qurraisyia Zulkafli, 33, between 10.30pm on December 14 and 10.30am on December 15 at Sg Congkak, Seksyen 32, here.

Scoop had reported that a woman, also a college lecturer, died, allegedly after being bludgeoned by her husband with a dumb-bell at their residence.

Police initially received a report at 5.33am from the suspect, claiming that his wife had a seizure. He subsequently took her to Shah Alam Hospital as she was unconscious.

A doctor’s examination found injuries on several parts of the 33-year-old woman’s body.

Further investigations also revealed that the victim was beaten by the suspect at their home out of jealousy before being taken to hospital.

Acting on this information, police apprehended the 38-year-old man at Shah Alam Hospital, and the dumb-bell believed to have been used to beat his wife was seized.

Shah Alam police chief Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim was reported as saying the couple had just been married in April of this year and did not have any children.

The victim worked at a college in Sarawak and had returned for vacation to attend a family member’s wedding, Iqbal said in a statement.

He added that the suspect, who is self-employed, has two criminal records related to assault and drugs. A screening test found him to be positive for drugs. – December 21, 2023
