KUALA LUMPUR – Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has instructed the police to conduct a detailed and thorough investigation into the fatal accident case involving a senior police officer and a secondary school student.

The instruction was also issued to the Ipoh district police chief, Perak police chief, and the Bukit Aman Traffic Enforcement Investigation Director.

Berita Harian reported that Razarudin has given assurances that the case will be conducted fairly and transparently, even though it involved a senior police officer with the rank of Deputy Superintendent (DSP), stationed at the Kedah police headquarters.

“The police have recorded verbal statements from seven witnesses including school students who had witnessed the incident at the scene.

“Other than that, the said police officer had been detained and will be brought to court for remand order today,” he was quoted saying.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of Road Transport Act for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Razarudin also asked for individuals who witnessed or possess information pertaining to the incident to step forward to the police to assist in the investigations.

Yesterday, a Form 5 student of SMK Jati, Ipoh, Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie, 17, died at the scene after he was rammed by a Perodua Ativa vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle is believed to be a 44-year-old senior police officer. It was believed that the suspect was unhappy with the teen’s noisy motorcycle exhaust, which made him chase the victim, leading to the accident. – December 16, 2023
