KUALA LUMPUR – Two more individuals are revealed to be the “masterminds” behind an alleged robbery by several Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers of a Chinese businessman in 2021, involving nearly RM1 million and several belongings.
Without revealing names, the lawyer representing the victim, Guok Ngek Seong, also disclosed that the two individuals are a husband-wife duo, with the husband being actively involved in politics and currently working within the government bloc.
While expressing gratitude over the recent charges on three MACC officers behind the robbery, Guok said his client, Kun Gao, urged the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) to consider charging the remaining two individuals.
“While our client truly appreciates the positive development in this case with the charging of the three officers, the client also pleads with the AGC to consider bringing the other two individuals to the books.
“Our client believes that these two other individuals are the enablers of the unfortunate episode to justice.
“If those responsible are not brought to justice, the image and reputation of the country and justice system may take a hit,” he told a press conference at Bangsar Shopping Centre, today.
Guok said all five individuals have been previously remanded for their alleged involvement in the case.
Also present was Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng, who had advocated for the case to be expedited.
He questioned why it “took so long” for the AGC to preside over the case, adding that the agency owes the victim, and all law-abiding citizens, an explanation.
Lim said that he had requested an update on the case in Parliament last November, and received a written reply from Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said that the case had been referred to the AGC and is being studied.
He also sent a letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on November 30 this year, which was shortly before the officers were charged on December 13.
However, the three men – MACC officers Muhammad Haffiz Mohd Radzi and Mohd Fahmee Mohamad Nor, as well as former officer Azwan Asli – all pleaded not guilty.
Under Section 395 of the Penal Code, they may be charged with jail time of up to 20 years and whipping, if found guilty.
Kun Gao was allegedly robbed of RM925,960, a luggage bag, and a Louis Vuitton bag at the Ritz Carlton Residences in Kuala Lumpur at around 12pm on December 10, 2021.
The incident quickly gained traction with news that three individuals had introduced themselves as MACC officers at the victim’s doorstep, before robbing him. – December 15, 2023
