[UPDATED] Sanusi should watch his words if he wants more tourists to Kedah: Tiong

Tourism minister responds to Kedah MB’s mocking of his physical appearance

PUTRAJAYA – Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing will not be seeking an apology from Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor after the Kedah menteri besar had recently mocked the tourism, arts and culture minister’s physical appearance.

Instead, Tiong advised Sanusi to watch what he utters publicly should the latter want more tourists to visit Kedah.

“It’s alright, it’s politics. He wants to play, he can play.

“We are not playing the game together with him,” he said during a press conference at the ministry, here, today.

It was reported that Sanusi had described the Bintulu MP as a “pot-bellied deity” during the Kedah state assembly sitting on December 1.

Tiong also warned Sanusi against continuing to hurt tourism development further with his offensive comments.

“If he (Sanusi) does not watch his mouth, what will happen?

“The situation would be chaotic, and it is not good for (the development of tourism).

“When people get angry, do you think they will continue to visit the place?” Tiong questioned, recalling the previous instance where tourists were allegedly banned from drinking alcohol and wearing shorts when visiting Langkawi.

In addition to the “pot-bellied deity” remark, Sanusi also accused Tiong of failing to provide feedback following a meeting with Thai government officials in southern Thailand last month.

Additionally, Sanusi also labelled Tiong as someone who did not have a “face that attracted tourists”.

In response, Tiong strongly rebuked Sanusi for making such a remark, accusing him of “losing his mind”. – December 4, 2023
