KUALA LUMPUR – National badminton coach Hendrawan is committed to working with men’s singles player Ng Tze Yong until the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Indonesian has been working with Tze Yong for the past two years and is focused on guiding the world number 14 through the competitive Summer Games qualifying period.
“I have a clear mission with Tze Yong.
“I remain committed to my responsibility of guiding Tze Yong for the Olympics in Paris
“The ongoing qualifying process is extremely competitive and Tze Yong does not need any distractions at this stage.
“Together, we are determined to achieve our goals,” stressed the 51-year-old today.
The former world champion was instrumental in helping Datuk Wira Lee Chong Wei bag the silver medal at the 2016 Olympics.
Yesterday, Scoop reported that the former world champion is looking to end his contract early before the Paris Games due to “work stress”.
A source within the Badminton Association of Malaysia said amid recent shifts in the national body’s coaching structure, Hendrawan appears to face challenges adapting to the new situation, perceived as stressful by insiders.
“The Indonesian Badminton Association has attempted to lure him back multiple times, but Hendrawan consistently declined, awaiting the conclusion of the Paris Olympics.
“However, given the current circumstances, his early resignation in the next few months would not be surprising,” said the source. – November 27, 2023
