PUTRAJAYA – PKR Youth chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim has clapped back at Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s criticism of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s economic policies.
In brushing aside the disparagement, Adam, who is also deputy youth and sports minister, claimed that Muhyiddin’s initial decision to not defend his presidential post in the party’s next election is indicative of the former prime minister’s “cluelessness” in addressing the plights faced by the people.
“I think he (Muhyiddin) is the one who is ‘buntu’ (in the dark), which is why he won’t be continuing to hold the president position.
“He doesn’t know what to attack (the unity government on) anymore,” Adam said during a press conference at the PKR Women and Youth Congress 2023, here, today.
Adam also highlighted how Anwar’s administration had established multiple initiatives to tackle matters affecting the people, including tabling the Budget 2024 and the 12th Malaysia Plan Mid-Term Review in Parliament, as well as the Madani Economic Framework.
Referring to the verbal exchange in the Dewan Rakyat last Wednesday between Muhyiddin and Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli, Adam said that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman has evidently run out of constructive points to “attack” the government.
“During the recent Parliament session (where Muhyiddin) questioned the economy minister, he (Muhyiddin) shifted the goalposts (as) his supplementary question differed from his original query.
“We consider him stuck in a dead-end, not knowing what to ask, oppose or challenge,” Adam added.
The Hang Tuah Jaya MP said this in responding to Muhyiddin’s speech at the Bersatu annual general assembly yesterday, during which the latter said that the prime minister does not have a clear goal for the nation’s economic growth and equitable wealth distribution for all citizens.
Muhyiddin also claimed that the Madani Economic Framework has failed to present a definitive commitment to developing the Bumiputera community.
Yesterday, Muhyiddin, who is also Pagoh MP, said his decision to not defend his position as Bersatu president was to provide the opportunity for other leaders to take over the leadership democratically while continuing to spread the party’s agenda.
Earlier today, delegates at the party’s annual general assembly unanimously rejected the decision. In recent developments, Muhyiddin has since announced that he will be offering himself as a candidate for the party’s president post, attributing the supposed “U-turn” to the blessings of his wife. – November 25, 2023
