KUALA LUMPUR – Media freedom and freedom of speech, especially on social media platforms, are among the issues to be raised in the Dewan Rakyat today.

According to the Order Paper, Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (Pasir Mas-PN) will be asking the communications and digital minister to state the government’s assurance that it will not misuse the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commision to restrict media freedom and freedom of speech.

Riduan Rubin (Tenom-Bebas), on the other hand, will ask the domestic trade and cost of living minister to state the extent to which the price standardisation programme has addressed the issue of rural people’s cost of living, particularly in Sabah.

Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah (Paya Besar-BN) will ask the economy minister whether the government intends to separate the calculation of inflation for goods and services and categorise them by state in order to reflect the people’s real situation of rising prices of goods.

Also on the Order Paper is a request from Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman (Bachok-PN) for the economy minister to outline the government’s strategies and policies for increasing Bumiputera individual and corporate equity ownership during the remaining period of the 12th Malaysia Plan.

The Dewan Rakyat sitting today will also resume the debate on Supply Bill 2024 at the committee level. – November 9, 2023
