KUALA LUMPUR – Wholesaler chain NSK Trade City Sdn Bhd (NSK) has issued a public apology to its customers and specifically, Muslims, after one of its supermarket branches was found to have sold frog meat along with other wet market produce, which recently went viral on social media.

In a statement issued yesterday, NSK said that it took the issue seriously with action being taken immediately.

“To our customers, Muslims in particular, we apologise for the incident on October 24.

“We understand the seriousness of the issue involved and action has been taken immediately.

“A severe warning has been issued to the workers concerned. The company will make sure that the mistake will not happen again.”

Earlier, viral photos showed what is believed to be frog meat being sold in plates placed at the wet market section, next to seafood at the Selayang NSK supermarket.

It is learnt that the workers in the section opened and displayed said meat for sale without knowing it was frog meat.

Apparently, the issue was only spotted at around 10am the same day, as the supermarket was not crowded with customers at the time.

The meat in question was removed from the section after the matter was brought up to the supermarket workers. – October 29, 2023
