Kajang MRT line users face long queues amid ongoing repairs, delays

Earlier, Rapid Rail announces 17 stations will have longer stoppage time

KUALA LUMPUR – The Kajang MRT line is currently experiencing delays in train operations between Kajang station and Merdeka station due to ongoing repairs to address a door system malfunction.

Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd has also announced that all 17 stations will have extended stoppage times, but they have assured passengers that the rest of the stations and other MRT lines continue to function normally.

“The repair work for door system malfunctions is still being carried out,” it said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Trains will move slowly and stop for a longer period from the Kajang to Merdeka stations. Train services in other areas are operating normally,”

Rapid KL has advised passengers to seek assistance from station officers or auxiliary police and has issued an apology for any inconvenience caused.

Earlier, Rapid KL had reported that trains were manually operated at Merdeka station due to the door system malfunction, leading to frustration among passengers due to increased wait times and queues, particularly during peak hours.

@emiramli, an X user, said the long queues extending to the level above the platform were not normal, but an impromptu piano performance by another passenger had turned the wait less insufferable.

Similarly, another user who goes by @yuzizie_ said the hundred-strong crowd queueing up for the train at the Bukit Bintang station was ridiculous.

Several others also argued Rapid KL’s definition of “normal”, as even unmentioned stations had a long waiting time.

“Lying is not good. (The waiting time) at Pasar Seni and Muzium Negara (stations) were also long. How was this normal? Speak truthfully that all stations will face disruptions,” X user @iamdaisyglass said.

Another user, @ns1dn, reported that the Muzium Negara station was so crowded that passengers were unable to scan their cards at the gantries.

Subsequently, Rapid KL in a statement said the repair works were completed by 6.57pm by the line’s technical and service team.

The operations team also sent empty carriages to the Pasar Seni and Bukit Bintang stations to reduce the congestion at the platforms. – October 27, 2023
