French Open: free ride into semis for Tze Yong

National shuttler moved forward after Kunlavut Vitidsarn’s pulls out from quarterfinals

KUALA LUMPUR – World champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn’s decision to pull out from his quarterfinal match has given national singles shuttler Ng Tze Yong a free passage to the semifinal of the French Open. 

Tze Yong was slated to play against Kunlavut in the quarterfinals at the Glaz Arena in Rennes today. 

Last night, Vitidsarn defeated Chou Tien-chen of Chinese Taipei 21-8, 21-19 in 44 minutes. 

Tze Yong defeated Arnaud Merkle of France, in straight sets 21-19, 21-8 in 47 minutes. 

The Johorean will now take on either Li Shefeng of China or Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia in the semis tomorrow. – October 27, 2023
