KUALA LUMPUR – Police have arrested 23 individuals associated with deviant Islamic teachings from 2022 to date.

In a statement, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain revealed that these arrests followed the receipt of 51 reports during the same period.

The total number of arrests includes 20 from the Tarekat Habib Shah group and one from each of the Nur Mutiara Mutmainnah and Suhaini @ Sihulk religious sects.

Razarudin said police are working closely with various government agencies and state Islamic religious councils to combat the spread of deviant teachings.

“Police take a grave view of the propagation of deviant teachings, which can potentially endanger security and public order,” he said.

“We are conducting intensive monitoring to ensure that adherents or practitioners of such teachings do not threaten national security.”

He also mentioned that police are actively monitoring seven groups associated with deviant teachings that have raised national security concerns, namely Tarekat Habib Shah, Dewan Perkasa Ekonomi Islam Nusantara, Perjalanan Mimpi yang Terakhir, Millah Abraham @ Ibrahim, Ajaran Suhani @ Sihulk, Nur Mutiara Mutmainnah and The Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light.

“Police will take decisive action without compromise, in accordance with the provisions of the Penal Code and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 should any adherents or practitioners of deviant teachings be found taking actions or making statements that could incite public outrage, disharmony, division, or hostility detrimental to security.” – October 19, 2023
