KUALA LUMPUR – The embattled Human Resource Development Corp (HRD Corp) will receive an allocation of RM1.6 billion under Budget 2024, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In tabling the Supply Bill 2024 in the Dewan Rakyat today, Anwar said that HRD Corp will use the funds to provide 1.7 million training offers.

“At the same time, HRD Corp will reallocate 14% of total levies collected to implement the Madani training programme.

“This will include a re-training and skills improvement programme for small and medium entrepreneurs as well as for vulnerable groups such as ex-convicts, disabled individuals, senior citizens, and retirees,” said Anwar, who is also finance minister.

On Wednesday, Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee said that it will be examining the programmes and training courses provided by HRD Corp.

This, PAC deputy chair Wong Shu Qi said, is to ensure the funds allocated for manpower and competence improvement programmes coincide with the needs of employers as well as current industrial and economic trends.

The committee will also summon Human Resources Ministry Deputy Secretary-General (Policy and International) Datuk Amran Ahmad and HRD Corp chief executive officer Datuk Shahul Dawood sometime this month for its proceedings.

It was previously reported that the Finance Ministry discovered discrepancies in a contract procurement process worth between RM53 million and RM159.47 million involving a key official in HRD Corp. – October 13, 2023
