KUALA LUMPUR – The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has urged Malaysians to be extra vigilant when donating to Palestinian funds.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain advised the public to verify those who represent fund-related non-governmental organisations prior to committing to any transaction, thereby avoiding becoming victims of fraud.
“Everyone must be vigilant and avoid getting involved with irresponsible parties looking to make a profit.”
“The Commercial Crime Investigation Department will tighten its monitoring and take strict action against any party that is trying to take advantage (of the escalating conflict),” he said in a statement today.
PDRM also advised Malaysians to avoid heading towards the conflicted area for their own safety, adding that the police will continue to ensure that Malaysians are not involved in a dangerous situation.
“Prayers and moral support from Malaysians are the best forms of solidarity towards affected Palestinians.
“PDRM will take steps to ensure that no party takes advantage of Malaysians’ good deeds and also ensure their safety while providing support to Palestinians,” he said.
The recent surge in violence in the Middle East region follows a surprise attack by Hamas on October 7, which saw dozens of fighters infiltrate Israeli territory near the coastal enclave of Gaza amid intense rocket fire.
The objective of Hamas’ Operation Al-Aqsa Flood is to end Israeli “violations”.
In response, the Israeli army initiated Operation Swords of Iron against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, leading Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to declare that “we are at war”. – October 13, 2023
