KUALA LUMPUR – The Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM) panel of coaches will be given full authority to continue drafting strategies in the quest for the country’s first Olympic gold in Paris, next year.
Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Jahaberdeen Mohamed Yunoos said they have faith in the ABM coaching panel to make decisions regarding the technical aspects, with no interference by the governing body.
“BAM will always adopt the practice of letting the experts do their jobs. For example, in the ABM, (coaching director) Rexy Mainaky is given full support in whatever he needs do to.
“We only handle the administration (matters). Each has his expertise and they have all been placed in the proper places. We already have a long-term plan, only trying to implement the Road to Gold (RTG) mission in Paris,” he told reporters at the launch of the KL Masters at the ABM in Bukit Kiara today.
Jahaberdeen, who is also the Kuala Lumpur Badminton Association (KLBA) president, said the coaching panel, led by Rexy, had the full support of BAM to continue propelling the national shuttlers to excel on the international stage.
Meanwhile, commenting on who will be the new ABM junior development (singles) director after Datuk Misbun Sidek vacated the post, Jahaberdeen expects the answer to be known after the BAM committee meeting on Saturday (October 14).
Earlier, Jahaberdeen officiated the launch of the KL Masters 2023, a Super Series 100 event, that will be held at the Titiwangsa Stadium here from October 31-November 5.
The tournament, which will be held in the capital for the first time, is set to attract local and overseas shuttlers, offering prizes worth US$100,000 (RM4.72 million). – October 11, 2023
