KUALA LUMPUR – The death toll from the Israeli bombings in the Gaza Strip has risen to 413, including 78 children and 41 women, said Palestine’s Health Ministry.

Also, a Palestinian news agency reported that some 2,300 were injured after Israeli airstrikes on a number of homes in the Gaza Strip.

Previously, Israel bombed the city of Khan Yunis in the south of the Gaza Strip, and the town of Beit Hanoun in the north, and a residential apartment in Rafah.

Malaysia had earlier voiced deep concern regarding the ongoing conflict in and around the Gaza Strip, calling for an immediate halt to the loss of life, suffering and destruction.

A statement from Wisma Putra highlighted Malaysia’s call for all parties involved to exercise restraint and to work towards de-escalation of the violence.

Malaysia has also urged the UN Security Council to convene an emergency meeting urgently, demanding an end to the violence and the protection of innocent civilian lives.

The surge in violence followed a surprise attack by Hamas on Saturday, involving dozens of fighters infiltrating an Israeli city near the coastal enclave amid intense rocket fire. The aim of the militant group’s Operation Al-Aqsa Flood is to put an end to Israeli “violations”.

In turn, the Israeli army initiated Operation Swords of Iron against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said we are “at war”.

Israel’s Health Ministry reported that the attack resulted in the deaths of at least 300 Israelis and left more than 1,500 injured. – October 9, 2023
