KUALA LUMPUR – The anti-doping hearing for a track and field athlete who failed a doping test at the Malaysia Athletics Federation Track and Field Championships in February was conducted earlier this month.

The banned substance found in the athlete’s sample was a class S.6 stimulant – sibutramine.

Anti-Doping Malaysia (Adamas) director Azura Abidin said that the hearing session was held to gather information from the athlete.

“The hearing was completed on September 11, and the athlete in question was called in so we could obtain all the necessary information.

“I expect the conclusion of the hearing to be released in two months.

“We will have to wait and see as the hearing committee has convened, and the athlete has submitted all relevant information,” she told reporters at the launch of the Piala Puteri Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships here today.

Azura added that the hearing was conducted to find out what really happened and what events led to the athlete testing positive for a banned substance.

“Members of the committee will take into consideration the athlete’s arguments based on the current anti-doping rules.

“We will also review previous cases to assist in our decision-making.

“It is not easy to make a decision on this matter as many aspects must be taken into consideration.

“We also need to be fair to the athletes. We need to determine if the athlete took the banned substance willingly or not,” she added. – September 15, 2023
