KUALA LUMPUR – National men’s singles shuttler Ng Tze Yong is consistent in slaying big names in the early rounds of tournaments, with his latest victim at the Hong Kong Open being Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen.
Tze Yong beat the world number 12, 21-19, 21-15 in straight sets, to qualify for the second round.
Tze Yong now has a 2-2 head-to-head record against Tien Chen.
The Johor-born Tze Yong will now face world number 14 Kanta Tsuneyama in the next round after the Japanese player defeated India’s Priyanshu Rajawat, 21-13, 21-14.
Meanwhile, the country’s top men’s doubles duo, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, had to concede a walkover in the first round as Wooi Yik is still unwell, the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) said in a brief tweet earlier today.
This gave their opponents and compatriots Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani a pass to the second round, where they will meet Taiwan’s Lee Jhe-huei-Yang Po-hsuan.
