KUALA LUMPUR — Amateur golfer Ng Jing Xuen is making her debut in the 2023 Maybank Golf Championship at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC) in Bukit Kiara from October 26-29.

She will join elite athletes Alyaa Abdul Ghany, Natasha Andrea Oon and Ashley Lau.

Group president and chief executive officer Datuk Khairussaleh Ramli said the championship is aimed at elevating women’s golf in the region and inspiring the next generation of golfers.

“At 15, Jing Xuen created history as Malaysia’s first gold medalist in women’s individual golf at the 2023 SEA Games, ending the nation’s 30-year gold medal wait in this category.

“With her sights firmly set on turning pro within the next two years, her attendance at this year’s Ladies Professional Golfers Association (LPGA) Tour-sanctioned tournament marks a significant milestone in her burgeoning career,” he said in a statement here today.

The contingent will be bolstered by the appearance of Olympian Kelly Tan, who will be teeing off at the prestigious West Course of KLGCC, as previously announced.

Kelly’s recent accomplishments included finishing as a runner-up in the 2022 Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational and winning the 2019 Florida’s Natural Charity Classic.

“As a seasoned veteran in the field, Kelly emerges as the one to watch, poised to inspire and lead her fellow junior local golfers by example, demonstrating the art of golf mastery at its finest,” he said. — August 29, 2023
