PUTRAJAYA – In a major stride towards digital inclusivity, the Communications and Digital Ministry has unveiled the much-anticipated Rahmah 5G Package, which aims to provide affordable access to advanced 5G technology by offering subsidies on mobile devices and postpaid plans to Malaysians.
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced the Rahmah package from the ministry’s headquarters in Putrajaya, here this afternoon, offering the assistance on smart phones and postpaid plans as low as RM60 per month with a minimum of 60GB data.
The launch, strategically timed just ahead of the forthcoming Merdeka Day celebrations on August 31, is expected to accelerate the country’s digital transformation.
Empowering connectivity through subsidised devices
The Rahmah 5G Package introduces mobile devices that combine cutting-edge technology with affordability. This package includes two models, the Samsung A14 5G and the Honor X90 Lite 5G, both of which offer formidable specifications for an enhanced user experience.
The Samsung A14 5G boasts a substantial storage capacity of 128GB, providing ample space for files, applications, and multimedia. With a RAM of 6GB, seamless multitasking and smooth app performance are assured.
On the other hand, the Honor X90 5G takes storage capabilities a step further, offering a generous 256GB. Complemented by 6GB of RAM, this device ensures effortless handling of data-intensive tasks and applications.

Affordable postpaid plans, inclusive access
The Rahmah 5G Package not only offers cost-effective devices but also introduces postpaid plans starting as low as RM60 per month. These plans come with a minimum of 60GB data, catering to a variety of digital needs.
The Rahmah 5G Package is open for subscription to all Malaysian citizens, demonstrating the government’s commitment to providing digital access for Malaysians of all backgrounds.
However, a special highlight of the package is its focus on the bottom 40% income earners (B40 group).
For the initial batch of customers, the first 100,000 to subscribe will receive a subsidy of RM120 on the smartphone’s price.
For example, this means that B40 customers can acquire a RM240 smartphone for only RM120.
“I would like to highlight that telecommunications companies are actively encouraged to enhance their offers in alignment with their individual sales strategies,” he said during the launch of the package at the ministry’s headquarters in Putrajaya, this afternoon.
“For instance, a telco has the flexibility to introduce a smartphone at a price point below RM240, a monthly postpaid plan priced under RM60, or a data quota exceeding 60GB per month.”
“It’s worth noting that certain telecommunications companies are now introducing Rahmah 5G Packages, which provide remarkable value. These packages can include options as enticing as a mere RM35 for 100GB of data along with a 5G-enabled device.

Fahmi said unlike other previous packages that targeted specific groups, the new Rahmah 5G Package is open to all Malaysians, allowing all to enjoy fast-speed connectivity.
“As a result of the ministry’s strategic collaboration with mobile phone manufacturers Samsung and Honor, an additional 12-month warranty period will be given, extending the entire warranty period to 24 months, which is the same as the contract period,” he said.
“This is one of the advantages of this package considering that the warranty period for other device bundle contracts on the market is only 12 months for a 24 month contract.”
Subscription and registration
Interested individuals can acquire the Rahmah 5G Package through a 24-month subscription contract, combined with a warranty for added peace of mind. The package can be registered for at any of the participating telco sales centres or online through the respective telco websites.
The Rahmah 5G Package will be available for subscription from August 31, 2023, until December 31, 2023, offering Malaysians ample time to take advantage of the opportunity.
For more detailed information, potential subscribers are encouraged to visit the websites of the participating telcos: CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, TM-Unifi Mobile, and YTL Communications (YES). – August 29, 2023
