SHAH ALAM – Rescue teams have only recovered the remains of six out of the total 10 deceased victims from the site of the ill-fated Beechcraft plane crash at Elmina, here this evening.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said that from the remains found, only one was discovered intact, while various body parts were discovered from the five other victims.

“The body of the motorcyclist involved in the crash was found fully intact. We’ve also detected several body parts from five other victims.

“We’re in the process of extracting and identifying at least four other bodies,” Razarudin said during a press conference at the incident site here.

He added that it cannot be confirmed yet whether the crash had caused more victims as authorities have not discovered if the car involved in the accident had any passengers.

“We know that a driver was killed in the crash, but the victim could have been a Grab driver with a passenger.”

He also said that while authorities have reached out to the motorcyclist’s next of kin, they have yet to receive a response.

As such, he said that police have set up a booth at the Klang Selatan district police station where families of victims can go for DNA identification-related works to be carried out.

Noting that efforts are currently focused on salvaging victims’ remains, Razarudin said that the search for the plane’s blackbox will only commence once all bodies have been recovered.

Asked to provide a timeframe on when the public can expect the affected roads to be usable again, he said that authorities here are working as quickly as they can.

“We’ll be carrying out our operations as fast as possible. It’s likely that the affected roads will still be closed off tomorrow because we’ll have to clear the road of all debris from the crash.”

Earlier today, it was reported that the Beechcraft Model 390 flight that crashed here plummeted some two minutes before it was due to land at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has since said that the aircraft did not make any mayday calls prior to the accident which took place at about 2.50pm today. – August 17, 2023
