GOMBAK – Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin has reminded citizens to remain mature if the elections in six states result in a change of state administrations.

Speaking at a press conference at the SK Klang Gate voting station today, Ayob said that police will take swift action against those who attempt to incite discord among the people.

“We have gone through many state as well as general elections. Since we’re all mature (people), there shouldn’t be any provocations,” he said.

“Police will make sure that the situation (after elections) is under control. If there are any incidents of party supporters violating the law, we will take action, regardless of party.”

He also urged supporters from different parties to think rationally and avoid acting based on emotions.

Ayob added that based on his visits to several other polling stations prior to stopping by here, the voting process has been going smoothly without many issues.

He noted that he is expecting more youth voters to come cast their ballots later on in the day.

According to the Election Commission, the turnout percentage as of 9am in Selangor, Terengganu, Penang, Kedah is 10% respectively; Negri Sembilan (9%) and Kelantan (8%).

Meanwhile, Ayob also said that while police have received zero reports on 3R (race, religion, and royalty) issues since nomination day on July 29, there have been some reported incidents of slander and flash mobs carried out without a permit. – August 12, 2023
