Netizens question Muda members’ motives behind fixing fallen Perikatan banners

KUALA LUMPUR – The actions of several Muda party workers who were seen fixing fallen Perikatan Nasional (PN) campaign banners have seemingly backfired against the youth-based party.

Despite their act of kindness and apparent intention of showing political maturity, some netizens are now questioning the party members’ motives in assisting its rival.

In a video posted by Twitter user @MohdHazwannnn late last night, several Muda volunteers dressed in party outfits are seen tying up a PN banner.

The caption for the video indicates that the incident happened in the Taman Templer state seat under the Selayang parliamentary constituency.

“Look at the hard work. While we were putting up our (Muda) flags, their (PN’s) banner fell. want to campaign cleanly and healthily, not dirtily,” a female voice was heard saying in the video.

Responding to the 31-second clip, numerous users of the social media platform expressed their criticism of the act, claiming that the move only cements rumours that the Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman-led party is aligned with PN.

With some users going so far as to labelling Muda as “traitors,” many others also expressed confusion over why the video was shared to the public in the first place.

One user, @shakeer_ahmad08, said that while camaraderie among political parties is good, the act will only jeopardise the fledgling party’s chances at the state polls.

He also questioned whether Muda’s Taman Templer candidate is aware of the act, noting that if he was in the candidate’s position, he would “tell off” his communications and information team.

Muda’s Taman Templer candidate is Aida Rahman, who will be going against PN’s Zaidy Abdul Talib and Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Anfaal Saari.

At the same time, several other users also alleged that Muda had previously replaced damaged PH banners with their own, with user @ibnu_sukri95 attaching photos of the supposed incident in response to the initial tweet.

Scoop has reached out to Muda to verify the authenticity of these images.

Another user, @farizazrai1, also pressed Muda to declare their allegiances, questioning whether the party, through its sole parliamentary representative in its president as Muar MP, stands behind the unity government or whether it is an independent.

“Which block does Muda want to be in? Government? Independent? Opposition? Tell it to us plainly so that the people understand,” he said. – August 8, 2023
