No shows on Agong’s coronation day: Puspal bars international acts on July 20

Five concert applications for July 20, including Good Vibes Festival, South Korean artist 10CM, now face uncertainty as they clash with the national event

KUALA LUMPUR – Event organisers have been advised against hosting concerts featuring international acts on July 20, as a show of respect to the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim’s coronation.

In a statement, the Central Agency for Application for Filming and Performance by Foreign Artistes (Puspal) said it received five applications for July 20 concerts involving international acts, which coincides with the Agong’s coronation.

Citing Article 16.1(F) of the Puspal guidelines (GPP), the committee said organisers are not allowed to host concerts featuring international acts and other large-scale international performances on days deemed unsuitable by the federal and state governments.

“As such, the involved concert organisers are advised to amend their concert dates and host them on a new and suitable date set in the GPP.”

Although no organisers were named, July 20 is set to be the first day of the Good Vibes Festival (GVF) in Genting Highlands, as well as South Korean indie-pop singer 10CM performing in Kuala Lumpur.

In a brief text reply to Scoop, GVF said it would issue a statement on the matter soon.

Last year, GVF faced difficulties after the Communications Ministry axed the festival after British band The 1975’s lead singer, Matty Healy, kissed his male bandmate and delivered profanity-laced speeches. – July 1, 2024
