SUBANG JAYA – Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB), Putrajaya’s special purpose vehicle overseeing the 5G network rollout, has yet to appoint its chief executive officer, according to Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.

He added that it was not discussed with him and was up to DNB’s board of directors to decide.

“It will take seven days to finalise the share subscription agreement (SSA). The board will then meet to discuss their direction moving forward,” he said after launching the MydinPay e-Wallet app at Mydin Mall here today.

Earlier, DNB announced the appointment of five new board members, comprising senior leaders from the telecommunications and technology industry, effective April 24, 2024.

DNB was first set up in 2021 under the Finance Ministry, and is currently the sole owner of the 5G network. It was responsible for rolling out 5G coverage before a second network is to be formed this year.

However, DNB is said to be plagued by problems involving the appointment of directors to represent the five private telecommunications companies within DNB.

Following the report, DNB denied allegations of not being transparent in its internal operations and rejected insinuations of any impropriety in its governance and procurement practices. – June 25, 2024
