KUALA LUMPUR – Six people, including the driver, were injured when an express bus skidded off the road and plunged into a 50-m-deep ravine at Mile 9, Jalan Silam, Lahad Datu last night.

It was reported that Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations centre officer Riki Mohan Singh Ramday said all victims were successfully extracted by the department at the scene.

“The injured victims were given initial treatment at the scene by Health Ministry officers.

“Following this, all the victims were taken to the hospital for further treatment by ambulance and Emergency Medical Rescue Services vehicles,” he said.

The team of firefighters, led by Senior Fire Officer II Suait Mohammad, along with machinery from the Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue station, was dispatched to the scene, Riki Mohan said.

He added that, based on the report, the accident involved an express bus that had lost control and fallen into the ravine.

“The department found that 13 passengers, including two foreign tourists, had already exited the bus on their own after arriving at the scene,” he added.

After assessing and ensuring there was no further danger at the scene of the accident, Riki Mohan said, the operation concluded at 11.30pm.

It was previously reported that an express bus had skidded and plunged into a ravine at Jalan Silam last night.
