Not boycotting Bersatu in Kuala Kubu Baharu, PAS busy with Raya event in Perlis: Tuan Ibrahim

He says instructions given for election machinery in Selangor to support Bersatu’s candidate

KUALA KUBU BAHARU – PAS has denied allegations that the party is boycotting Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) candidate from Bersatu after its leaders were noticeably absent on the nomination day today.

Speaking to Scoop, PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said PAS leaders were attending a Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration in Perlis.

“Today, PAS has a Hari Raya celebration in Perlis, so most of our leaders are there. We have instructed our election machinery in Selangor to accompany the candidate today, so there is no issue here.”

The by-election here is a four-cornered fight between Pakatan Harapan’s Pang Sock Tao, PN’s Khairul Azhari Saut, Hafizah Zainuddin of Parti Rakyat Malaysia and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xie.

Among the PN leaders present in Khairul’s entourage during the nomination process were PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, Selangor PN chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Parti Rakyat India Malaysia president SP Punithan.

Tuan Ibrahim said PAS has instructed its election machinery from other states to support Khairul.

“Our election team has issued a duty roster, so all the machinery will be on the ground.”

The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election was held following the death of its incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong, 58, on March 21 due to cancer.

There are two weeks of campaigning before voters cast their ballots on May 11. Early voting is on May 7. – April 27, 2024
