KUALA LUMPUR – Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib expressed her readiness to face the challenges ahead and to stand up for herself both as a woman and as the late Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s wife.

“Alhamdulillah, I am still in Malaysia, fighting for my right to return to my home in Kuching.

“I’m currently residing in KL and observing my iddah while waiting for certain matters to be finalised.

(There is an uphill battle ahead, but I’m prepared to stand up for myself as a woman and as a wife to the late Taib,” she said in an Instagram post today.

Iddah refers to the waiting period a woman must observe after the dissolution of her marriage, either through divorce or the death of her husband, in Islamic law.

Her statement is believed to be due to the legal battle between her and her stepsons.

As previously reported, the high court granted a request to adjourn the hearing of the late Taib’s sons’ civil suit against their stepmother, Raghad, for one month.

Plaintiffs’ lawyers, Datuk Sri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib and Datuk Seri Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib, said they received instructions to request that the hearing be adjourned on the grounds that the brothers are putting the house in order following their father’s death.

Former governor Taib died on February 21, 2024, in Kuala Lumpur at the age of 87.

Raghad is being sued by Sulaiman and Mahmud, who are seeking a court injunction to stop the transfer of company shares to her.

They named Raghad as the first defendant and RHB Investment Bank Bhd as the second defendant in the case.

“As I mentioned before, I will not leave the country and will continue upholding my late husband’s legacy by supporting Sarawakians through the Ragad Foundation.

“Your inquiries regarding my whereabouts and the iddah are not only thoughtful but also a testament to the caring nature of our community.

“May Allah SWT bless you abundantly for your prayers and support. Let’s continue to support and uplift each other through kindness and understanding,” she said. – April 22, 2024
