KUALA LUMPUR – The wife of the suspected KLIA shooter expressed relief when the Kota Bharu magistrates’ court ordered her husband to be remanded for seven days, starting today, for investigations.

Farah Md Isa, who is a mother of six, said she will accept the court’s actions on 38-year-old Hafizul Harawi, who opened fire at KLIA Terminal 1 early Sunday morning.

“Alhamdulillah. Let the law judge him,” she told Scoop today.

Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid ordered earlier today that Hafizul, who was arrested yesterday, be remanded from today until next Monday to be investigated under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 for illegal possession of guns.

Wearing a purple lockup uniform, Hafizul arrived at the Kota Bharu court arounf 8.30am today, surrounded by heavy police escort.

He was apprehended at Jalan Bayam, Kota Bharu, at about 3pm yesterday after being on the run for over 24 hours.

The suspect was nabbed in front of a private hospital by the special criminal investigation department of the Kelantan criminal investigation department.

Previously, Hafizul was believed to have fled north of the country after the shooting.

Based on the investigation, the suspect intended to shoot his wife, who was waiting for Umrah pilgrims to return to KLIA. However, the bullet went astray and hit her bodyguard, Muhammad Nur Hadith, instead.

According to Farah, the suspect fired twice before one of the bullets hit the bodyguard.

The incident caused the victim to suffer injuries to the abdomen and was recently reported by The Star to be in stable condition following a five-hour surgery. – April 16, 2024
