KUALA LUMPUR – Two food stalls and three motorcycles were consumed by a fire in front of Batu Lanchang market in Jelutong, Penang, this morning.

This also includes a famous stall which sells “nasi tomato” which has been operating for 35 years, reports said.

In a statement on Facebook, the Penang Fire and Rescue Department said that it received a distress call about this incident at 10.37am.

It then deployed a team of 17 firefighters from the Jalan Perak and Paya Terubong stations to the scene – equipped with a fire rescue tender, a rapid intervention motorcycle, and Triton machinery.

Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Station chief A’Azelan Hassan, who led the operation, said the fire damaged two stalls, each with a surface area of 20x70ft, and three motorcycles.

“The fire also involved three motorcycles – a Yamaha NVX with an estimated 60% damage, a Honda EX5 with an estimated 5% damage, and an SYM E-bonus with an estimated 90% damage.

“The fire was brought under control at 10.52am and was fully extinguished by 10.59am,” he said, adding that the operation concluded at 11.35am.

However, no victims were reported, and the cause of the fire has not been disclosed. – April 16, 2024
