KUALA LUMPUR – Police in Pahang have busted the distribution of drug-laced fruit-flavoured drinks to entertainment centres in Kuantan, following the arrest of a 42-year-old man today.

The state’s narcotics criminal investigation department also seized RM35,300 worth of drinks that included 175 boxes of carton drinks in different flavours, and 50 cups of packed fruit-flavoured juice.

Both types of drinks are believed to contain a mixture of dangerous drugs, and were seized when police raided two premises in Kuantan, Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said in a statement.

The suspect arrested, a Chinese man who tested positive in a urine test for methamphetamines, was remanded from today until April 18 to assist in investigations.

He has a history of seven prior drug-related offences and is believed to be involved in distributing the drinks to different entertainment centres.

“The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a penalty of death by hanging or life imprisonment and not less than 15 strokes of the cane upon conviction

“With this arrest, the Pahang police have successfully dismantled drug distribution activities at entertainment centres around the Kuantan area of Pahang,” Yahaya said. – April 12, 2024
